Quickly Locate Objects in Sublayers
Here’s a handy tip if you work with a bunch of Layers. Illustrator can automatically expand and scroll to a sublayer that’s hidden within a collapsed layer. All you have to do is click on the object in your artwork and choose Locate Object from the Layers panel menu. The sample image below is taken from CS6 but should work in older versions of Illustrator.
IMcreator: Drag & Drop to Create Your Own HTML Site
There is a common idea that, if you don’t have a Facebook profile, you don’t exist which is wrong but more and more people adhere to the global movement of being present on the miraculous network. Despite of that, in the near future or even in the present anyone who has a business must be present on Internet or else the risk of bankruptcy is near, meaning the business doesn’t exist for customers. The existence of a business shouldn’t be the main factor involved in creating a website, anyone is free and welcomed to join the unlimited number of online presences.

The level of complexity reached by web designers in creating new and new websites is amazing and only specialists could launch these and, in the most case, the payment for these kinds of services is pretty amazing. Under these circumstances, it is normal for everyone to ask himself if there is the possibility of creating a website with low or no costs; fortunately, by reading this post you will be able to build a free website.
A simple “website builders” search on Google will conduct anyone to lots of website builders, some of these really amazing, some more decent. One of the most interesting applications that allow for the building of a free website is Imcreator. By using this website builder anyone, no matter how familiarized he or she is to HTML and CSS, may create and launch a website. The huge advantage of this cool website builder is the capacity of borrowing from the user the hated part of coding. Yep, there is no HTML tag you should know (don’t worry, if you are a modest knower of HTML there are some chances to use your arsenal). Instantly after landing on their home page of the official website you will fall in love with the superb design but clearly, the reason of visiting their online presence is to use the Imcreator application to build a free website.
Depending on each one’s inspiration, you are free to select a template or, if you trust your forces, start from a blank page. A very original item that isn’t present on other website builders is the support button- here you may ask the help of an agent to chat or submit a ticket. In this way, no matter which problem someone encounters, there is a “big brother” ready to help.
Anyway, the easiness of adding pages and new element removes any potential issue almost completely. The multitude of templates impresses anyone but most importantly, satisfies all tastes from real estate to portfolios prototypes. Once you have selected the suitable template, the real miracle will come: the possibilities of customizing the websites are limitless and very complex. Other website builders allow customizing more or less, the menu, the header but imcreator goes a step further by proving alternatives for improving SEO, analyzing the ulterior evolution of the website, adding a favicon etc.
The rest of the features are very complex but at the same time simple to insert, the making of a website being mostly a fun activity and not something boring. Personally, I think it is better to test this website builder yourself and try to build a free website by yourself.

Fit Text Frame to Content Script

Nathaniel Kelso created a couple of really handy scripts to fit text boxes to their content. This might seem like a really basic problem, but these problems are usually the most annoying. There is a script for a text box’s Depth and a script for the text box’s Width. If you work with a bunch of typography in Illustrator I’m sure they will come in handy. Thanks to John Wundes for pointing it out. Download the script here (you need to scroll down a little ).
30 jQuery Plugins to help with Responsive Layouts
There is always a new challenge for designers and Web developers. One of the latest is definitely responsive web design, the art of serving the same web page to multiple devices including PCs, mobile phones to the tablet and iPhone that look good on all of them. Typically, you would use Media Queries to resize the overall layout, but navigation, forms, images, sliders, carousels… they all need to be optimized as well.
Web site designers and developers like to create such designs that allow users to browse their favorite websites on any device. 16. Foundation An easy to use, powerful, and flexible framework for building prototypes and production code on any kind of device. Start here, build everywhere. 17. Simple GridSG is prepared for 4 distinct ranges of screen size: screens. Most grid systems use one class for all units of a single size, leaving units oblivious to where they fit into the grid.Creating the code for your grid should be the least of your problems when building a site. That’s why SG keeps things simple and straightforward with as little markup and classes as possible.

With the following script you can automatically create a montage, either for a liquid container or a fixed size container (including full screen), with the option to fill all the gaps.
26. Jquery MasonryMasonry is a dynamic grid layout plugin for jQuery. Think of it as the flip-side of CSS floats. Anchor Points: John Duvengar

You might recognize some of John Duvengar’s work from recent Weekly Inspiration posts. His Bigfoot illustration is one of my favorite illustrations I have come across lately. John’s attention to strokes and subtle textures give his strong vector shapes character and a slight non-digital feel. John has some great replies to the Anchor Points questions, so read on!
The Chat Hey John, thanks for chatting with Vectips! To start, could you tell us a little about yourself?Hi Vectips crew and community. It’s a great pleasure and honor to be part of Anchor Points.
My artist name is John Duvengar, which is an anagram of my real name. I choose it when I decided to quit law to become an artist. It was not an easy decision, but I felt I really had to live my dream. I started working as an illustrator for an economic review where i experienced various technics from traditional paper and ink to digital ones. The vector technic is now my favorite one because it allows me to have an extremely precise control of my trace. The few things that I need to work are: a good tablet, a good computer, a good chair and like to be listening to good music.
If you could magically turn into a Illustrator tool, what tool would it be and why?My favorite tool is the paintbrush, because it combines the traditional hand gestural and the flexibility of the digital tools.
What’s your favorite Illustrator technique? There is a lot! But I in particular like the halftones filter from the plugin Phantasm CS. I have lost so much time trying to do perfect halftones into illustrator before it.
Do you use any non-digital tools in your work? All my designs are a combination of digital and no-digital technics. I always start working with quick and dirty sketches on my moleskine before choosing one of them to make it cleaner in a bigger size. Besides, I always dreamt about making completely non-digital comics one day, but I know it would be a huge challenge. This is my personal Holy Graal.
What are your favorite sources of inspiration?I always have been very inspired by old comics and cartoons like Popeye, to name only one. I’m also very curious about street art and I began to understand a little more about contemporary art, especially abstract art. I’m currently doing some experiments in this field.
Thanks again for the interview! Any parting words of wisdom?Be yourself, create your own style and make love not war!

Illustrator CS6

Illustrator CS6 is shipping! I’m sure most of you know and have already downloaded the the trial version, but if you haven’t, go and get it already! In the following post I breakdown some of the new features in CS6 and it’s not quite a review, just an overview at what is new. I want to use CS6 for a solid month in production work before I put up my review.
Adobe Mercury ProgramThe most significant change in Illustrator is the the Mercury Performance System. With the Adobe Mercury Program, Illustrator has native 64-bit support on Mac OS and Windows. You can access all the RAM on your computer to easily open, save, and export large files and preview complex illustrations. Mordy Golding has a good breakdown of what 64-bit Illustrator CS6 actually means and you can read more about the Mercury Performance System over at Adobe.
Flexible Interface
On the surface, Illustrator’s new interface looks darker, but there is a lot more going on under the hood. Now that Illustrator has a new 64-bit framework every panel had to be rewritten. Now a bunch of old issues have been taken care of and we can benefit from new technology. For example: inline editing of layer names, precise color sampling, UI brightness, and a lot more. Mordy has another great post on these enhancements.

Pattern CreationCreating patterns in Illustrator can be a tedious process but in CS6 the pattern process is greatly improved. Now pattern creation and editing is quicker and more intuitive.
Click here to view the embedded video.
New Image TraceIllustrator CS6 comes with a new Image Trace engine tailored to create cleaner tracings with less paths, anchor points, and better color recognition than in Live Trace.
Click here to view the embedded video.
Gradients on StrokesIn CS6 you can add gradients on a stroke along the length, across the width, or within the stroke itself. You will also have complete control over gradient placement and opacity.
Click here to view the embedded video.
Gaussian Blur EnhancementsGaussian Blur and effects such as Drop Shadows and Glows are applied significantly faster than before. To improve accuracy, preview directly on the artboard rather than in a dialog box.
Panel Enhancements
Below are some of the panel enhancements thanks to the new 64-bit framework and interface changes.
Inline editing in panelsEfficiently edit names in layers, swatches, brushes, artboards, and other panels directly in the panels themselves without using intermediate dialog boxes.
Color panel enhancements
Sample colors faster and more precisely using an expandable color spectrum in the Color panel. And now, copy and paste hex values into other applications more quickly.
Transform panel enhancements
One of my favorite enhancements is the Scale Strokes and Effects option, thanks to its new availability in the Transform panel.
Type panel improvements
Use arrow keys to change fonts in context for selected text. Glyphs for caps, superscripts, and more. It can now be accessed in one place, the Character panel.
Control panel enhancements
Quickly find what you need in a more efficient Control panel, now with consistency across options, anchor point controls, clipping masks, envelope distortions, and more.
Dockable hidden tools
Tear off and dock previously hidden tools, such as the Shape and Pen tools. Dock tools horizontally or vertically for a more efficient workspace.
Workspaces with rooms
Move fluidly from workspace to workspace with support for rooms. Achieve consistency across your work areas and maintain layout changes until you actively reset them.
The Complete Team Behind a Heavy Visited Blog
As a web designer is hard to believe that at least once per week don’t check the most important blogs in the industry. The huge amount of information presented in addition to the high quality of these are forming a mixture that is vital in keeping updated with what is new in web design world. Anyway, we, the readers must be grateful to the never ending endeavors of the bloggers that sacrifice their time for our pleasure or informing.
Nowadays, not only the latest news in web design are presented on blogs, there is no domain not to have tons of blogs explaining superficially or in depth what is about or how to do something. The blogosphere, the totality of blogs created, is in a spectacular expansion and what some year ago was considered a fade is in present nothing neither more nor less than a complex industry.
Under these circumstances is very normal to ask ourselves if it advantageous to create and maintain a blog, could it be a solution to gain some extra money? The answer is depending on each particular situation but a blog, used smartly may be a source of money and reconnaissance. At the moment of writing this post the rumors of selling Mashable by his owner Peter Cashmore are very present and the cost of it is simply amazing and enough motivating to think seriously about the launching of one.
The bad news is that the things evolved and nothing can be achieved without a long time effort and many sleepless nights. The success is not the result of hazard, it’s all about smart work and strong will. At the beginning of a successful blog, a single blogger is enough but across time, there must be curdled a team capable of maintaining and getting more and more visitors. In order to get an idea about what suppose the expansion of a blog and how are distributed the roles I created this post, clearly, there is no precise formula, each blog has its particularities. I will highly appreciate any completion, the more ideas the better becomes the post.
1.The ownerBehind each blog is situated a person that believed in his potential and the chance of turning into an interesting voice in his domain. Usually the owner is a very good specialist, also a good writer but most important, is very decided. Peter Cashmore, as example, at the beginning of his blog was writing almost ten posts per day, which is a good ratio for any blogger. After a while (personally, I consider a year the minimum period) a blogger may think to next steps. The evolution of a blog is strictly determined by the traffic obtained and only when is reached the point where simply you as blogger are overdue is recommended to search for help.
2.The administratorThe work of administrator is very similar to the role of owner. First of all he is the chief and only the capital decisions are made by the owner (the tasks may vary according to the preferences of the owner, some wish to have a complete control while other has complete confidence in the admin). The administrator establishes the schedule of posting, which posts are good and which must be rethought. In the process of expansion are required new and new authors and usually, the admin is responsible by hiring a new one. Another role, very important, is in making the strategy on long term. A blog can’t evolve without a draft, no matter how it looks, a simple file or an impressive plan, where are stipulated some checkpoints and deadlines. This is very important to have the big picture over the entire situation. A heavy visited blog has a specialist in marketing and optimization but they must be near administrator in order to make the best decisions. Willing or not, the administrator is the brain of the blog.
3.The authorsA blog attracts people and maintains them only by providing quality information. The role of authors is also very important, without their participation the blog won’t exist. Apparently not complicated the role of an author is very difficult, they are the ones that are fighting for each new visitor. Their work is decisive: write posts, add the images and pay attention to the feedback of the readers.
4.Guest authorsAnother category of posts writers are the ones interested in SEO or advertising. They write a post that must be accepted by the administrator and once it got his OK it’s published. The particularity of it is the personal bio, usually situated at the end of the post where is described in few sentences the author and here are inserted links to his websites. Apparently, less important, the personal bio is an amazing tool in the right hands. A blog may function with only these roles but for a more visited one, must be created two new separated roles: the SEO and marketing specialists.
5.SEO specialistGoogle just announced a radical revolution related to the algorithm of indexing and displaying the websites, few people know that Google produces monthly mini-revolutions and changes the rules very frequently. Under these circumstances, the role of a SEO specialist becomes obvious and very important. A blog that isn’t search engine friendly simply doesn’t exist!
6.Marketing specialistThe financial aspect is determiner and by neglecting it, the end of the blog is near. A marketing specialist must take care of the promotion of the blog and he decides the long term strategy of branding. Definitely, he may be also responsible by the monetization of the blog so there must be a specialist. It may seem a little bit complicated but in fact is too simple and the roles are looking similar to the ones from any print publication. These roles aren’t fixed and anyone may be responsible for two or three of them or other may replace someone. In fact really no matter who is chief or subalterns, what really matters is the quality of the posts and the reaction of the readers. Do you agree or not with me?

Move Pattern Tiles Manually

I get some great email questions from Vectips readers and sometimes they even answer their own questions, making for great tips! Which leads me to… you can use the tilde (~) key to mannually move pattern tiles. For example, select an object with a pattern tile applied to it, hold down the tilde key, and move it with the arrow keys or one of the selection tools! Pretty handy.

Beautiful Paper Art Works to Refresh Your Mind
Even in today’s world of modern business Audios, Videos playing a major role, there is something that keeps us back to the paper when you want to find ideas in a notebook, doodle around in a sketchbook, to gather inspiration in an album or just draw some sketches for the next project or task.
Many people think that the art of paper includes only the design, drawing and painting. But some talented artists took the usual form of art for the next level of creativity by involving new forms of cutting, folding, and sculpture.
